Qualcomm Inc's dual-core chips are poised to appear in more than 20 new tablets made by smartphone and PC manufacturers rushing to win market share in the red-hot mobile market, a Qualcomm executive said.

Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon processor for tablets is being used in Hewlett-Packard's TouchPad unveiled on Wednesday and Qualcomm Group President Steve Mollenkopf told Reuters that more tablet announcements are on the way.

There are over 20. We haven't detailed out any of them but if you look at our customer base it tends to be a blend of traditional phone manufacturers going after that market as well as traditional PC manufacturers going after that market and we have a good mix of both, he said on Thursday.

Qualcomm shares were up 1.2 percent at $56.87 in afternoon trading.
