R. Kelly has just made R&B history. The singer, best known for his single “I’m a Flirt” and the over-the-top series of operatic videos “Trapped in the Closet,” has been nominated for a combined total of 21 Soul Train awards, making him the most nominated artist ever.

R. Kelly is up for two awards at this year’s show, Album of the Year for his latest record “Write Me Back” as well as the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter's Award. He has won eight out of the 19 previous awards he was nominated for, most recently the Stevie Wonder Award for Outstanding Achievements in Songwriting at the 2006 Soul Train Awards.

Along with R. Kelly, Usher will make a strong showing at this year’s show after being nominated for five awards himself. Usher’s awards include Best R&B/Soul Male Artist and Album of the Year for his new record “Looking for Myself.”

Fans can expect to watch R. Kelly make history in November. The 2012 Soul Train Awards will be filmed Nov. 5 in Las Vegas and aired on BET and Centric Nov. 25. Cedric the Entertainer will host the awards ceremony.
