Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has signed with Spanish side Real Madrid on loan till the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent.

Real Madrid's manager Jose Mourinho had been on the look-out for a back-up striker after Gonzalo Higuain's injury was deemed to sideline him till the end of the season.

The Spanish club, in a statement in their website, announced that they had signed Adebayor on loan till the end of the season at which point they will hold a unilateral decision to complete his purchase for a reported fee of £18.

Their statement said, Real Madrid CF and Manchester City FC have reached a deal that will see Emmanuel Adebayor play on loan for the former club. The player will remain at Real Madrid until the end of the current season, at which point the club hold a unilateral option to purchase the player.''

The 26-year old Togo international joined Manchester City in a £25 million deal from Arsenal. Though he got off to a bright start, the change in managers saw him fade away from the first team. Furthermore, the arrivals of Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko left him alone in the periphery and he will move to Madrid with aim of restarting his career.
