"Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson said in a recent interview that he is going to play the role of Christian Grey in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the novel "Fifty Shades of Grey," by E. L. James.

Earlier this week, in an interview with MSN, the 26-year-old actor was asked if would like to play Grey, and Pattinson replied, “I am playing that part.”

But then he laughingly said, “I also wrote the book.” So it may be safe to say that he may not take Grey’s role after all, even though the novel began as "Twilight" fan fiction.

Pattinson has, however, previously expressed his interest in the book.

Meanwhile, Pattinson’s rumored on-again, off-again girlfriend and "Twilight" co-star, Kristen Stewart, discussed the "Fifty Shades of Grey" novel earlier this month.

"I've skimmed parts of it,” Stewart said in a new interview with Backstage.

“When I read the first few pages describing her messy hair, I was like, 'This is so strange.' But it's just so raunchy! I mean, obviously, everyone knows that. But when I see people reading it on planes and stuff, I'm genuinely creeped out. Like, you're basically just reading porn right now! Get that blanket off your lap!"

Fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey" are still eagerly awaiting the announcement of which actors will be cast for the roles of protagonists Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey.

Ian Somerhalder, an actor on TV's “The Vampire Diaries,” has long been seen by some as the perfect Christian Grey, because of what many consider to be his smoldering eyes and charming good looks.

“Oh man, there's nothing official," Somerhalder said last month when asked about whether he would be filling the major role. "It's just talk."

When asked if he was preparing for the role -- just in case -- Somerhalder responded: "Yeah, there's a website you can go to where you can just outfit your basement as a dungeon. So, you know, I thought I'd get prepared, just in case."

Of course, the actor was joking, but some Somerhalder fans hope that he gets to play the leading male role in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, as no one has officially yet been named for any of the roles.
