Last year saw the rise of the Droid smartphone as Motorola launched the Droid 2. Now there are leaked pictures of the Droid 3.

In the leaked images Droid 3 has other companions in the form of Droid X2 and a device which is codenamed ‘Targa.’

The Droid X which was launched as an iPhone competitor did well in 2010. This year the Droid X2 is expected to come with qHD display and a dual-core processor, compared to the older versions' single core processor. Droid 3 is also expected to come with improved processor, operating system and improved keyboard design.

The new smartphone from Motorola Targa is expected to include support for 4G LTE similar to Motorola's Droid Bionic 4G, have a front facing camera, capacitive buttons, HDMI output and 13-megapixel camera, which should make Targa the first smartphone to feature a camera that approaches the resolution of a digital SLR.

With Motorola’s latest smartphones, the Atrix and Droid Bionic, just being introduced to the market, the likelihood of Droid X2, Droid 3 and Targa being released that soon is unlikely. The date on the front says 01-18-2010, which means Motorola has been working on this a long time.

But there seems to be debate on the authenticity of photos which appeared on Howard Forums. But the devices look similar to previous versions and there is as yet no evidence they are fakes.
