It appears the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may have a sibling, which is projected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in 2014.
Insiders told SamMobile the upcoming Samsung device will feature premium specs with a smaller price tag than the Galaxy Note 3 and will likely be called the "Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite." The device will reportedly hit markets between February and March.
Notably, prerelease rumors for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 suggested that the device would release in several models, including a low-cost option. Now rumors mimic those previous reports, indicating that the Galaxy Note 3 Lite may feature an LCD display between 5.49 inches and 5.7 inches, and an 8-megapixel camera; still largely premium, but not on par with more recent high-end devices. The original Galaxy Note 3 features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display and a 13-megapixel camera.
Recently, a new Samsung model number, SM-N7505, surfaced within shipping manifests for the manufacturer, which many have now connected with the Galaxy Note 3 Lite. Android Authority noted that the model number is far off from the SM-N900 for the Galaxy Note 3, but is similar to the SM-N7100 model number for the Galaxy Note 2, which was a high-end and high-priced device for its time, with specs similar to those proposed for the Galaxy Note 3 Lite. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 featured a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display and an 8-megapixel camera.
The name ‘Lite’ is also quite suitable, considering the Galaxy Note series are intended to be large-screened devices. The implementation of lesser, yet still respectable, specs does not quite warrant the moniker of Mini, as was the rumored name for the low-cost version prior to the Galaxy Note 3 release. Other comparable devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Mega models, are notably mid-range with much smaller batteries and less powerful processors than high-end Samsung devices. We can likely expect the Galaxy Note 3 Lite to have formidable hardware, coupled with the now lower-end auxiliary specs like display and camera.
Keep in mind that no information about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite has been confirmed by Samsung and remains speculation. The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 is reportedly also expected to be announced at MWC 2014.
