Samsung Electronics Co.’s (KRX:005935) upcoming Galaxy Note 4, the next-generation version of the company’s flagship Note series, is rumored to feature a new three-sided flexible display.

According to a report from ZDNet Korea, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 will hit the market with a new flexible “Youm” display, which the company showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last year. The report also said that the new Galaxy Note 4 display would be three-sided, which means that the display has its left and right sides curved to create additional zones where notifications about messages, emails and incoming calls can appear.

Here is a video demonstration from 2013 where Samsung showcased a three-sided Youm display prototype:

The latest rumor follows last week’s revelation from Hankil Yoon, the company’s senior vice president, that the Galaxy Note 4 would feature a new form factor. This new form factor for the Galaxy Note 4 could very well be what is shown in the video above.

Reports surfaced in November claiming that Samsung had filed a patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO, for a wraparound screen that is similar to the concept of a three-sided display.

The new display was expected to allow for the use of virtual buttons while also allowing users to more easily tab through files or pictures that are sorted alphabetically or by year, Phone Arena reported.

The upcoming handset is also expected to be water- and dust-proof, and could be powered by a Samsung-made Exynos processor with 6-cores or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU, with 4GB RAM.

Rumors also have it that the Galaxy Note 4 could sport a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with 4K video-recording capability and optical image stabilization technology.

Other features that are expected from the Galaxy Note 4 include an improved battery with a capacity ranging between 3600mAh and 3800mAh, Android 4.5 operating system, 128GB of internal memory, 4G network support and dual-band Wi-Fi capabilities.
