Samsung is preparing to launch its next generation smartphone, the Galaxy S3, which is said to be a worthy competitor to Apple's upcoming iPhone 5. However, there may also be another device in the works.

According to tech news site ITProPortal, a new entry has been registered in the Global Download Centre of the Samsung UK support section. The Galaxy S3 has been registered as the GT-19300, and another gadget labeled as the GT-19308 has just been added.

These entries are not present in the company's US database, which could mean an earlier launch for the UK. Nothing has been confirmed, but the two separate codes could indicate that Samsung will be releasing two different versions of the Galaxy S3, or two completely separate tech products.

The rumor mill surrounding the new gadget has been flooded with speculations, from screen size to release date. A leaked image reveals that the phone will be slim in size, and a launch date is expected for May 22 although no official announcement has been made.

Another rumor states that the Galaxy S3 may be the first phone to feature wireless charging, and is also said to pack a 4.65-inch display with 720p high-definition resolution. The hardware is said to be a quad-core ARM A9-based Exynos 4212 chipset.

And with such a variety of speculations, the device could prove to be a heavyweight in the mobile industry.

The original Galaxy S has been the iPhone's biggest threat as far as device vs. device sales go, wrote Dustin Early of smartphone news blog AndroidAndMe.

As the next Samsung project, the GT-19308, makes its way into the spotlight, there's sure to be fan speculation about its features as well.
