“Modern Family” walked away with a win at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards show Monday night, but unfortunately for one of the series’ stars, actress Sarah Hyland, her longtime boyfriend Matt Prokop was not around to celebrate. Just hours after the program won the award for outstanding comedy series, a representative of the actress confirmed to Us Weekly that the television star and her beau of five years have separated.

“She’s young. They decided they would be better off as friends,” an insider told the magazine. “Sarah’s doing fine. It just didn’t work out.”

Hyland, 23, and Prokop, 24, first met in 2008 while auditioning for the third installment of Disney-ABC Domestic Television’s “High School Musical” trilogy. The couple moved in together two years later, as documented by Hollywood Life. The duo went on to co-star in the 2011 films “Geek Charming” and “Conception.” Prokop also played the on-screen love interest of Hyland’s character Haley Dunphy in one episode of ABC’s “Modern Family” in 2012.

Hyland attended the Emmys show with her “beautiful date” Annabel Gualazzi and her “Modern Family” co-stars Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ariel Winter. The actress has yet to speak out about the split, only addressing her series’ fifth consecutive Emmy win Tuesday via social media. “This sums up the #emmys2014 for me,” Hyland captioned an Instagram image of herself smiling on the event’s red carpet. “Thank you to those who voted for us! I can’t believe we won!”

Prokop’s latest tweets indicate he’s still getting over the breakup:
