“Scandal” Season 6, episode 1 may name Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) as the next president of the United States.

Just recently, ABC dropped a series of photos from “Survival of the Fittest.” One of the snaps featured Mellie talking to her campaign manager, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington). In the photo, the two characters are smiling at each other as if to say that they have made it to the White House.

However, it is also possible that the opposition will win the electoral race. While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Shonda Rhimes said that the first 10 minutes of episode 1 will focus on the results of the election.

Meanwhile, Young spoke with Yahoo TV recently to dish on what else is in store for her character in the upcoming premiere episode. According to the actress, a series of flashbacks starring Mellie will be a huge part of Season 6. These scenes will help viewers understand how the character came to be. Additionally, there will also be shifting alliances throughout the 16 episodes of the hit ABC series. “What follows is so explosive for Mellie. She will never be the same,” she said.

In other news, “Scandal” Season 6 will also continue to focus on Olivia and Fitz’s (Tony Goldwyn) relationship. A series of photos from the network showed the two talking to each other in private. In one of the snaps, Fitz kisses Olivia’s head while the latter is bowing down.

Olivia and Fitz’s relationship goes a long way back, but it seems that making it official again won’t be the priority this season. After all, Rhimes said that Olivia already made it clear that she doesn’t need a man to make her successful.

“Scandal” Season 6, episode 1 will air on ABC on Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. EST.
