“Scandal” stars Jeff Perry and Zoe Perry recently became co-stars in the hit ABC TV series. But the father and daughter play for opposite sides in Shonda Rhimes’ TV show.

While speaking with People at ABC’s “Scandal 100th Episode Celebration,” Zoe said that she feels honored to have been cast by Rhimes as Samantha in Season 6. “I was so lucky that Shonda is just the most incredible woman and thought of me for this part, and here I am getting to act with just my favorite actors. My dad, obviously. Joe Morton, who is so incredible. I’ve gotten to work with just the best people around,” she said.

Jeff also gushed over his daughter’s acting in “Scandal” and said that she’s extremely happy about everything that she has achieved as of late. Talking about the role Zoe plays on “Scandal,” he said, “It’s just a beautiful character that the writers created… I can tell that she’s had a blast doing it. She’s doing beautifully.”

Rhimes chanced upon Zoe when she starred in the stage play “Anna Christie.” In the local theater production, “The Family” actress played the lead role, while Jeff played the role of Anna’s father. “Grey’s Anatomy” star Kevin McKidd was also cast as the sailor. One to two years later, Rhimes came up with the character Samantha for “Scandal” and remembered Zoe from the play. The rest was history.

In the series, the Perrys are enemies, but Cyrus may still not be aware of it. Samantha doesn’t want Cyrus to become the next president of the United States, so she had to make it seem as though he was responsible for Frankie’s (Ricardo Chavira) death.

“Scandal” Season 6 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
