KEY POINTS

  • Selena Gomez left a sad face emoji to a TikTok video alleging she was always skinny while dating Justin Bieber
  • Some fans speculated that Gomez's emoji suggested she agreed with the fan's claim
  • Other netizens argued that the actress-singer's weight should not be a topic of discussion

Selena Gomez left an emoji in response to allegations that she was always skinny while dating her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber.

A TikTok video claimed that the "Rare" singer was affected by her relationship with Bieber. The clip was posted on Nov. 29 and featured a montage of throwback photos of Gomez.

"The reason why Selena is always skinny when she dates Justin," the caption read.

The creator also claimed that the "Baby" singer would rather date "models" and pitied Gomez, writing, "My poor baby."

On Sunday, the "Kill Em With Kindness" singer subtly responded by leaving a sad face emoji. Her response divided the netizens, with some claiming she agreed and others saying the singer was disappointed that her weight was an issue.

"Maybe she's upset you guys are constantly bringing up her body changing over the years. She has a right to react to her OWN life. Either way, she's [fire emoji]," one fan wrote in the comment section. Another added, "Sad face because YOU'RE still discussing about her past like you know her."

"If you actually watch Selena's content, you'll know that she is saying it in a sarcastic way," a third person claimed with a crying face emoji

"I'm [sorry], but I think her comment was meant ironically," another user wrote.

"I don't know how they can make these types of videos, Selena already lives her life, I don't know why they keep relating!!!" a fifth person added.

"Omg I'm so happy for Selena. [S]he finally can share her feelings and be free and do whatever she wants," a different netizen commented.

Other users pointed out that Gomez's "weight shouldn't even be a subject of conversation." The "Tell Me Something I Don't Know" singer dated the "Yummy" crooner on and off from 2010 to 2018.

She addressed their high-profile breakup in her documentary "Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me" and said it was "the best thing that ever happened to me."

Gomez has been open about her health problems and how they affected her body image. She was diagnosed with lupus in 2015 and underwent a kidney transplant.

Earlier this year, she shut down body shammers on her TikTok Stories as she got candid on the judgment she received from the critics concerning her appearance. She mouthed the lyrics "I'm a muthaf--kin star" as Tyga's song "Rack City" played in the background.

"So I be trying to stay skinny, but I went to Jack in the Box, and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich," Gomez said, E! News reported. "But honestly, I don't care about my weight because people b---h about it anyway: 'You're too small.' 'You're too big.' 'That doesn't fit.' 'Meh meh meh meh.'"

The "Who Says" hitmaker left the body shamers with a message, "B--ch, I am perfect the way I am," noting, "Moral of the story? Bye."
