Shadowhunters
Here's what fans can expect from “Shadowhunters” Season 2. Freeform

A new “Shadowhunters” Season 2 teaser has been released.

In the clip, Maryse Lightwood (Nicola Correia-Damude) tells the shadowhunters that Valentine (Alan van Sprang) has the Mortal Cup and is getting ready to form an army. Lightwood also informs everyone that a shadowhunter has joined Valentine. That shadowhunter, as fans of the show have seen in Season 1, is Jace (Dominic Sherwood).

Lightwood also introduced the new head of the New York Institute, Victor Aldertree (Nick Sagar). Speaking of the plans he has for the Institute, Victor says their first priority is to find where Jace is. He added that, in light of what had happened, he will put the Institute on lockdown for the meantime.

Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) wonders who will find for Jace if everyone is to stay in the Institute. Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia) assures her that Jace is a tough guy and that Valentine won’t be able to get through him. The scene then cuts to Jace being punched in the face multiple times by one of Valentine’s men.

The teaser shows one of the biggest arcs of the upcoming season, which will focus on finding Jace and show how the ordeal will affect Clary’s personality.

During a Q&A, McNamara teased that the tables will turn for her and Sherwood’s character. The actress said that Jace had always been sure of himself, and Clary was the one who was always lost about who she was. In the upcoming season, though, Clary will be the one to help Jace find his way.

Aside from Jace’s struggle, the upcoming season will also see Clary’s transformation into “a new kind of shadowhunter,” McNamara told VVV magazine (as quoted by Just Jared). McNamara said that her character has already been acquainted to the worlds of the shadowhunters, downworlders and mundanes, and now Clary is ready to face new challenges.

“Shadowhunter” Season 2 will premiere on Jan. 2, 8 p.m. Central on Freeform.
