A single engine aircraft carrying a banner on the California coast in Carlsbad, just outside of San Diego, crashed Saturday after losing engine power, KNSD, San Diego, reported. The Piper PA18 reportedly hit a teenager, who was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The plane lost engine power at around 3 p.m. PDT (6 p.m. EDT) and crashed near the beach. The plane flipped and was partially submerged, KNSD reported. The pilot, who was the only person aboard the aircraft, was uninjured, Federal Aviation Administration Pacific Division Public Affairs Manager Ian Gregor said.

A video of the crash shows beach goers scattering as the plane crashed. Another video shows the plane being towed from the water by an official SUV.

A KNSD reporter later tweeted the tow truck sent to get the plane from the beach had been unable to get to the aircraft because parked cars were blocking access from the road.

The plane was reported owned by Air Ads Inc. of El Cajon, California. Earlier in the day, the company posted to its Facebook account that the company would be “out in force” on San Diego beaches for the holiday.
