In several years, Sony Corp. will market digital cameras which can take high resolution photographs at 60 photos per second thanks to a newly developed image sensor, Japanese daily Nikkei reported Thursday.

Current digital cameras can take only about 10 photos per second. Sony says the new cameras will be especially suited to capture sports related images, such as when baseball player's bat makes contact with a ball.

The prototype image CMOS sensor (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) has a maximum resolution of 6-megapixels.
