Sony has just unveiled its newest smartphone, the Xperia 5. What is it and what does it feature? Here’s a quick glance at the specs of Sony’s newest handset.

This year’s IFA has seen a lot of new devices, one of which is Sony’s newest smartphone, the Xperia 5. Android Authority reported that it’s just like the Xperia 1, but comes with slightly toned-down specs and a smaller body that measures 158mm tall, 68mm wide and 8.2mm thick. Indeed, it’s a phone that fits in the palm of its user’s hand.

Like the Xperia 1, the Xperia 5 also comes in a metal and glass body: the frame is made of aluminum, and Gorilla Glass covers both the front and back. It has a 6.1-inch Full HD+ display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, which is not something every smartphone user will like. Still, the OLED CinemaWide display looks good, and appears to be designed for watching movies or videos on the go.

The Xperia 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, backed by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS memory which can be extended to 512GB via microSDXC. This processor did a good job with the larger Xperia 1, and can be expected to perform very well on the smaller Xperia 5.

Sony fitted the Xperia 5 with three 12MP cameras at the back and an 8MP selfie shooter in front. The three rear cameras borrow technologies from Sony’s Alpha cameras and feature 2x optical zoom, 4K HDR Cinema Pro 21:9 video recording, Eye Autofocus and Optical SteadyShot for smooth videos even when captured while moving around.

The new Xperia 5 is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance. It has a USB-C port used for charging the device, and features Xperia Adaptive Charging tech. The smartphone also has Dolby Atmos stereo speakers but doesn’t have the beloved 3.5mm headphone jack that also went missing on the Xperia 1.

Outside, the Xperia 5 has a screen lock key, a volume rocker, and a fingerprint reader, all of which can be found on the right-hand side of the phone. It has a 3,140 mAh battery and weighs 164 grams. It also comes in black, blue, grey and red colors. It is expected to be released in the U.S. on November and will be sold for $799.99.
