A new detailed leak suggests Sony might be the first manufacturer to come out with flagship smartphone running Android O. The device is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 835 chipset, and will likely be shown off at IFA 2017 in Berlin.

The leaked information was spotted on the AnTuTu benchmark platform, where a device listed as the G8441 is believed to be Sony’s next Xperia flagship. Along with the Snapdragon 835 processor will be 4GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage.

What’s curious about this device is that it’s listed as only having a 720p HD display. The smaller display resolution might possibly hint that this device might be the next-generation Sony Xperia Compact, as pointed out by Android Central.

A 720p display on a flagship handset seems out of place, there’s another leak that suggests the display may actually have a 1080p full HD display. Evidence of this was spotted by the XperiaBlog by going through the UAProf file. It's possible the AnTuTu benchmark simply listed the wrong screen resolution for the device.

An Xperia Compact device with a Snapdragon 835 processor also seems a bit sketchy. The last Compact device was the Xperia X Compact, which was released last year. That device only had a mid-range Snapdragon 650 chip.

This is why it’s being speculated the Xperia device with the model number G8441 might possibly be a non-Premium version of Sony’s Xperia XZ. The Xperia XZ Premium arrived earlier this year with a 4K HDR display. It would seem fitting that Sony would introduce a new Xperia XZ device without the 4K HDR capabilities so that it can still offer a very powerful new phone at a lower price point.

Speaking of price, this Xperia G8441 device is said to cost €650, or around US$740. This is already a bit cheaper than the Xperia XZ Premium which costs $799.

IBT also reported last week that Sony might announce a new flagship Xperia phone at IFA 2017 in Berlin, and that the device might arrive with a bezel-less design. There’s currently no evidence to suggest that this is the G8441 handset, but there is another upcoming Xperia device that’s already been unearthed.

A Sony Xperia device with the model number G8341 was recently spotted on the website of a Polish retailer store Komp.Tech. The site listed this device with a price tag of €750, or around US$854. There’s currently no word on the processor, RAM, storage or display size of this handset, but it’s possible that this might be the rumored bezel-less Xperia smartphone. If that’s the case, this could arrive with an 18:9 aspect ratio like the LG G6. Like the G8441, this device is also expected to arrive with Android O at IFA 2017.

The Polish retailer also listed that the Sony Xperia G8341 will arrive in four color options, namely black, moonlight blue, Venus pink and warm silver. The same site also claims that the G8441 will be available in black, horizon blue, snow silver and twilight pink.
