As much as Star and Simone try to move forward, they just can’t seem to shake the demons from their pasts. In the last episode of “Star,” viewers saw Simone pull through after a drug overdose, and the girls managed to submit their song in time for the music festival deadline. However, in Season 1, episode 4, titled “Code of Silence” the girls’ attempt to become success may be thwarted by sins of the past.

“Carlotta (Queen Latifah) continues to search for the truth about Simone (Brittany O’Grady) and Star’s (Jude Demorest) past, as a familiar face reaches out for Jahil’s (Benjamin Bratt) help,” the synopsis teases. In the promo video, Simone’s foster father Otis (Darius McCrary) shows up to the group’s performance looking for her.

In the pilot episode, Star thought she killed Otis when she stabbed him in the middle of raping Simone, but he survived the fight. In the clip, after making his way through the crowd, he can be seen confronting Star, who refuses to let her sister go with him.

Carlotta then informs Jahil of Otis’ presence, prompting the music manager to pull out his gun in order to “handle business.” However, in the video, it doesn’t look like Jahil will be confronting Otis.

By the end of the “Star” Season 1, episode 4, “Code of Silence” promo, Simone is face to face with her foster father pointing what looks to be Jahil’s gun at him.

“Meanwhile, Miss Bruce works on preparing the salon to compete in an upcoming hair show,” the synopsis says. The hair show could be the reason why Star and Alexandra (Ryan Destiny) are wearing outdated hairstyles in the clip.

“They unexpectedly arrange for the empress of soul, Gladys Knight, to introduce their showcase, which includes a live performance from the girls, who sing a cover of one of Knight’s classic hits,” the synopsis states. In the promo, it looks like the ladies will be covering “I Feel a Song (In My Heart)” by Knight, but will that be before or after they deal with Otis?

“Star” Season 1, episode 4, “Code of Silence,” airs on Fox Wednesday at 9:01 p.m. EST.
