“Star Wars: Episode IX” won’t feature Carrie Fisher’s character, Leia Organa.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed that they redid some parts of the film after Fisher’s shocking demise. “Obviously, with Carrie having passed away, it shook everybody. We pretty much started over,” she said. Kennedy also confirmed that Fisher’s scenes won’t be recreated digitally.

But even though Fisher won’t be part of the ninth installment that’s slated for release in 2019, the actress will be featured in the eighth film. Prior to her death, Fisher was able to complete all of her scenes. The film is slated to hit theaters in the United States on Dec. 15.

Meanwhile, Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, and daughter, Billie Lourd, recently granted the production company rights to use old footage of Fisher and include it in the final film. While speaking with the New York Daily News, Todd said, “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t. She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan – when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue. I’m not the only part in that equation, but I think the people deserve to have her. She’s owned by them.”

During his appearance in “Good Morning America,” Todd said the same thing. However, Kennedy claimed that Fisher’s brother may have been mistaken. After all, Fisher will only be featured in “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.” Lourd will also make a cameo in the movie as a Resistance officer.
