“Star Wars: Episode VII” viewers may be greeted by a familiar face when the film hits the big screen in 2015: Ewan McGregor might reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the J.J. Abrams movie that will be the next entry in the “Star Wars” series, according to Latino Review.
This latest rumor comes after another one that speculated that Ian McDiarmid may star in the film, possibly returning as Emperor Palpatine in one form or another, Jedi News said. Similarly, Latino Review speculated McGregor’s character could return as a Force Ghost in the movie.
Both Obi-Wan and his ghost were featured in the original “Star Wars” trilogy: The part was played by Alec Guinness, who died in 2000. The use of computer-generated imagery has been presented as one possible way McGregor could be placed into past footage that features Guinness. This would be done much like the way Hayden Christensen was added to a digital version of “Star Wars: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi.”
Speaking to Digital Spy last year, McGregor said he would definitely return to the “Star Wars” franchise should he get the call. But, at that time, he said he was unaware of any details about the next film’s production.
