What new trailers could debut when "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits theaters on Dec. 18? Lucasfilm

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is expected to be a box office success when it opens on Dec. 18 and other upcoming films are hoping to tap into the power of the force. Several studios are lining up to have trailers of their highly anticipated 2016 films shown before the latest installment of "Star Wars." One studio in particular is hoping to "live long and prosper," when Paramount premieres a preview for "Star Trek Beyond."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a "Star Trek Beyond" trailer will have one of the premiere preview spots, while the others are still up for grabs. The film is due out July 22, 2016 and will be produced by "Star Wars" director J.J. Abrams. While "Star Trek Beyond" will have one of the spots, many are wondering what other trailers will fill in the slots.

Last week a new trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" premiered and it's possible another trailer could be shown when "Star Wars" arrives. Marvel could also find a way to get a trailer for at least one of their 2016 releases, the long awaited "Captain America: Civil War" due out May 6, 2016 or "X-Men: Apocalypse" expected on May 27, 2016. Who knows, it's possible "Deadpool" or "Suicide Squad" could also drop another trailer in a few weeks or to keep up with the idea of movies that were hits in the 80's, maybe the first trailer for the "Ghostbusters" could debut.

To keep up with the science fiction theme of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek," a first look at the "Independence Day" sequel "Independence Day: Resurgence" could also make it's promo debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Independence Day: Resurgence" is expected to premiere on June 24, 2016 and pick up after the original film, with the aliens returning to create more chaos on Earth.

Two of the frontrunners for movies to have trailers shown during Star Wars include "The Jungle Book" or even "Finding Dory," since Lucasfilm was bought by Disney in 2012. "The Jungle Book" is expected April 15, 2016 and "Finding Dory," the sequel to 2003's "Finding Nemo," is due June 17, 2016.
