The stock market took a hit for the third straight day Friday, as more economic indicators fell short of expectations.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 97 points. Nasdaq fell 40 points and the S&P 500 fell 12 points. Overall, all three were down a combined 2.3 percent for the week.

The Labor Department released its jobs report for the month of May on Friday. A mere 54,000 jobs were added, the worst number since September, and unemployment rose to 9.1 percent. Over the last three months, an average of 220,000 jobs were added each month.
