"Suicide Squad" is one of the most anticipated comic book movies coming in 2016. Luckily for fans, director David Ayer gave the world another look at the squad on Twitter Monday, but the villain that has the most people talking, the Joker (Jared Leto), was missing-in-action.

Ayer's new photo from the movie shows a menacing looking Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). The squad appears to be cornered, which has a few concerned and others looking entertained. The photo can be seen below.

Many will notice the Joker is missing from the photo. Some now believe that the Joker might not be a part of the main squad in the upcoming film.

Ayer last hinted at the Joker's role during an interview with USA Today. Ayer said the villain is "the king of planet Joker," which could mean that the villain might not be the best team player.

While preparing for the role, Leto got deep into the character. So much so, that Will Smith told Beats Radio 1 in October 2015 that he "never actually met" Leto. The only time the two talked with one another was when they were acting as their characters during the filming of the movie.

In an interview with Empire magazine in December 2015, Leto said he had a "period of detachment" during the role. "I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way," he said. "It was fun, playing those psychological games."

Aside from a brief clip and a few photos, not much has been revealed about the Joker in "Suicide Squad." However, it's very likely the director is trying to keep most of the villain a secret until the film is released.
