“Suits” star Gabriel Macht admitted that he has put a lot of thought into the unresolved romantic tension between his character Harvey and Sarah Rafferty’s Donna.

In a recent interview with HarpersBAZAAR.com, Macht explained why he thinks Harvey has never pursued a romantic relationship with his legal secretary, Donna. “I think for Harvey, there’s certain things he gets out of the relationship that he feels like if they were to be romantic, she wouldn’t be able to fulfill for him,” Macht said. “And I don’t know if he’s conscious enough to realize what’s more important. He’s really unconscious about the relationship, and she [Donna] is too.”

“She may not be as clear as she thinks she is when it comes to her heart,” Macht continued. “Because Donna’s awesome, right? Donna’s this, Donna’s that, but there’s something missing [for her], and that might be it. We all have our own insecurities and our own failures to communicate, things that keep us from realizing our truth, and maybe that’s what keeps stringing along their relationship.”

In an interview with the New York Post in July, Macht admitted that exploring Harvey and Donna’s relationship as lovers won’t interest him. He, however, thinks that seeing the pair end up together in the series finale would make a good ending.

“If the idea is that people want to see these two together because they see them as being great partners, that’s great ... but, to be frank, when Ross and Rachel got together [on ‘Friends’], I wasn’t as interested,” he said at the time. “If anything, I’d like to see them get together at the very end.”

Although Rafferty isn’t ruling out the possibility of seeing Harvey and Donna become a romantic couple, she personally thinks that it won’t happen. “I’ll never say never,” Rafferty told Digital Spy in January last year when asked if she thinks Harvey and Donna would end up as boyfriend and girlfriend. “It could be amazing, and we have great writers who could create that scenario for us. But it’s not something that I see happening. Though I could be wrong. I’ve been wrong before!”

In the Season 6 finale, Donna ambiguously told Harvey that she wants more. While that statement could mean a lot of different things, series creator Aaron Korsh told Deadline that it might mean that Donna wants more of Harvey in her life.
