A top executive at a popular television network in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu was arrested in Chennai, the state's capital, on Friday morning after a former employee filed a police complaint of sexual harassment against him, according to local media reports. C. Praveen, chief operating officer (COO) of Sun TV, the flagship network of Chennai-based Sun TV Network, was taken into custody from his home.
The former employee filed a complaint against Praveen alleging that she had to quit her job due to the harassment, The Times of India, a local newspaper reported. The woman, whose name was not revealed, resigned from her position five months ago and claimed that her dues remained unpaid, NDTV, a local news network reported, citing sources.
The woman reportedly submitted messages and call records to local police to back the claims made in her complaint. Preliminary inquiries into the case confirmed that the woman suffered physical and mental torture.
According to local reports, this is the second sexual harassment case filed against a top executive of the company. Earlier this year, a news editor of the group was arrested based on similar allegations by a news anchor.
