A year after Super Bowl LI takes place in Houston, the next NFL champion will be decided in a cold-weather city. The 2018 Super Bowl, or Super Bowl LII, is set to be played in Minneapolis with the big game returning to the city for the first time in 26 years.

Super Bowl LII is scheduled for Feb. 4, 2018, and U.S. Bank Stadium will host the game for the first time in its existence. Super Bowl XXVI was played in Minneapolis’ Metrodome as the Washington Redskins beat the Buffalo Bills 37-24.

U.S. Bank Stadium opened on July 22, 2016, and it will be home to the NCAA Men’s Final Four just 14 months after Super Bowl LI. It has a seat capacity of 66,200.

No team has ever played the Super Bowl in their home stadium, and the Minnesota Vikings will attempt to make history in the 2017 season. The Vikings missed the playoffs in 2016 with an 8-8 record, and Minnesota hasn’t won a playoff game since 2010.

It will be the 15th consecutive year in which the Super Bowl is held in February. The Super Bowl has been played on Feb. 4 just once before. The Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears 29-17 in 2007 on that date.

Many fans will pay top dollar on the secondary ticket market in the days leading up to Super Bowl LII because it will be difficult to get seats at face value. The league usually distributes tickets in the same manner, giving both Super Bowl teams 17.5 percent of the seats. The team that hosts the game, in this case the Vikings, gets five percent of the tickets. The other 29 NFL teams get 1.2 percent of the seats, and the organizations hold lotteries of their own among season-ticket holders. The NFL league office takes the final 25.2 percent of the tickets.

The NFL has also held a lottery in past years, allowing 500 fans a chance to buy two tickets.
