Kara (Melissa Benoist) is going to meet her new boss Snapper Carr (Ian Gomez) in next week’s episode of “Supergirl.” Although Snapper shares the same strictness with Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), there’s actually a big difference between the two that explains why Kara has a much better relationship with Cat.

“Cat — both with Kara and I think with others — is actually devoted to mentoring people,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly. “She challenges them hard, but she does that with the idea that she’s forging them and they’re going to come out the other side as stronger, better people.

“[But] Snapper Carr doesn’t give a crap,” Kreisberg continued. “He believes in the written word, in facts and ‘Are you good at your job or are you not? If you’re not good at your job, I don’t have time for you.’”

In a separate interview with TVLine, Kreisberg said that viewers are going to see Cat as “warm and fuzzy” once they meet Snapper. “He’s very brusque,” the exec producer said of the new character. “He does not think Kara is spunky or cute, and he is not interested in mentoring anybody.”

Snapper is described as a determined and intelligent newsman who happens to be the editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine. Snapper’s arrival to the firm is going to make Kara’s new job more demanding as he’s known for his strong commitment to uncompromising journalism.

“I think it’s going to present a lot of challenges for Kara even more than she ever had with Cat,” Benoist told TVLine at San Diego Comic-Con last July when asked how Snapper's presence at CatCo Worldwide Media will impact her character.

“[While Kara and Cat] had such a symbiotic relationship, I think with Snapper Carr — it’s definitely a hurdle and a nice challenge for Kara,” added the 28-year-old actress.

“Supergirl’s” next episode, titled “The Last Children of Krypton,” airs on Monday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Check out the synopsis for Season 2, episode 2 below:
