Melissa Benoist as Supergirl
Parasite, the villain who has the power to drain its enemies’ life energy, is returning in Season 2 of “Supergirl.” The CW

“Supergirl” fans have not seen the last of Parasite yet.

According to Collider, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour that “Parasite is coming back” to the CW series to wreak havoc in National City. IGN reported that the alien parasite will return in episode 13 of the current season.

Parasite first appeared in Season 2, episode 6, titled “Changing.” As fans will remember, Parasite was actually a scientist named Rudy Jones (William Mapother), who was transformed into an alien-human hybrid after being infected by an alien parasite. In the episode, Parasite drained Kara (Melissa Benoist) and J’onn’s (David Harewood) life energies, but after the Kryptonian regained her powers through the help of Yellow Sun lamps, she — together with Mon-El (Chris Wood) and the Guardian (Mehcad Brooks) — successfully took the villain down.

But since Parasite was pulverized into dust after he absorbed the Plutonium 239 that Kara collected from a nearby power plant, it’s unclear how exactly the baddie will return to the show.

In addition to Parasite, Livewire (Brit Morgan) and Metallo (Frederick Schmidt) are also set to return in the second half of the season. TVLine reported that both villains will come back to take down the Girl of Steel once and for all.

Although a lot of previous baddies are returning for the remaining episodes of the installment, Kreisberg said that the next batch of episodes actually focuses on Mon-El’s secret. “Kara is still facing CADMUS, and there will a couple of returning villains,” Kreisberg said. “[But] I think a lot of the pull of the next episodes is the mystery of Mon-El and what is he hiding, and who are these people who are tracking him. And that coincides with [Kara and Mon-El] growing closer, and seeing where that relationship goes.”

“Supergirl” Season 2 returns to The CW with an all-new episode on Monday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST.
