Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
A new video from the set of “Supergirl” Season 3 shows Lena Luthor’s (Katie McGrath) Supergirl Appreciation Day getting awry. The CW

Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) is hosting a Supergirl Appreciation Day in Season 3, episode 1 of “Supergirl.” But based on a video and photos taken from the set of the CW series, the special event won’t go exactly as planned.

In a video shared by Twitter user @lenathorr, Lena goes up to the stage after she’s introduced. She speaks for a bit and gestures her right hand towards the “Girl of Steel” banner that serves as the stage’s background. The banner is dropped and the audience members start to clap their hands. It’s unclear why the crowd begins to cheer, but Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is probably behind the banner waiting to be introduced. Things, however, start to get chaotic from there. People begin to panic and run away after an explosion is heard.

The video doesn’t show who is responsible for the attack but because Odette Annable was spotted on set, it won’t be surprising if her character, Reign, is the one who caused the chaos. Chyler Leigh (Alex), Floriana Lima (Maggie) and David Harewood (J’onn) were also spotted on set. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reign will be introduced as part of “Supergirl’s” interpretation of the famed World Killer storyline from DC Comics. In the comics, Reign is one of the five Worldkillers, aka genetically engineered Kryptonian weapons, created by Supergirl’s biological father Zor-El. Just like Supergirl, Reign possesses superhuman strength and speed, as well as the ability to fly. Created by Michael Green, Mike Johnson and Mahmud Asrar, Reign first appeared in print in March 2012.

Reign’s arrival on National City was teased at the end of Season 2 finale of “Supergirl,” in which it was revealed that there was another baby from Krypton — in addition to Supergirl and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) — who was sent to Earth before Krypton’s destruction.

In the final moments of the finale, several hooded figures placed the mystery baby in a pod that quickly left the planet before it exploded. “It should survive the journey. It will grow strong on Earth… and then it will reign,” said the baby’s guardian as the pod launched into space.

“Supergirl” Season 3 will premiere on Monday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
