James Olsen as the Guardian

James (Mehcad Brooks) will start using his position as the head of CatCo Worldwide Media to build up the image of his vigilante identity, Guardian.

In Season 2, episode 9 of “Supergirl,” James is creating a piece about how great the Guardian is, and it seems that Kara (Melissa Benoist) won’t just let National City’s vigilante to outshine Supergirl in the popularity game.

“I’m writing my article on how amazing the Guardian is and how he stopped the crime, and Kara’s writing her article about Supergirl,” Brooks said, according to TVLine. “We’re having a secret war. It’s just a little funny scene where both of us are trying to push our agendas.”

This secret war, however, won’t last that long, as Kara will eventually find out that James is moonlighting as a vigilante. When asked how the Girl of Steel will discover his character’s secret, the 36-year-old actor teased that Kara “finds out in a very dramatic fashion that James is the Guardian.”

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg previously revealed that Kara is going to be furious when she learns about James’ nighttime gig, and that’s the very reason Superman’s (Tyler Hoechlin) best friend is looking for the right time to reveal his secret to her.

“I think that James was right to not tell her [because] he pretty accurately guessed her reaction to it,” Kreisberg said. While the exec producer said that the Girl of Steel’s reaction is “explosive,” he said that it’s definitely “out of concern and love.” “She loves James and Winn (Jeremy Jordan) and when she does find out, she’s worried for her friends’ safety,” Kreisberg explained.

In the extended trailer for Season 2, episode 9, James says that he’s more himself as Guardian than he has ever felt as James Olson. Perhaps when Kara hears these words from him, she will understand why her former lover decided to become a vigilante.

“Supergirl’s” Season 2, episode 9, titled “Supergirl Lives,” airs on Monday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Watch the extended trailer for the episode below:
