“Supernatural” is getting a blast from the past. According to reports, the Winchester boys will reunite with characters from earlier episodes of the CW series during the show’s eleventh season. But the brothers won’t be coming face-to-face with just any characters. It was revealed that Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) and “Supernatural” fans will unite with key players from the plot of the fantasy series.

In July, during the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, “Supernatural” executive producer Jeremy Carver teased that fan favorites from the long-running series would reprise their roles in the upcoming installment -- but in “surprising ways.” However, it wasn’t until September that the tight-lipped showrunner divulged more information on that interesting and alluring tidbit.

Carver told TVLine that the reappearance of characters is due to the release of The Darkness, which was freed from its captivity in the Season 10 finale following the destruction of the Mark.

“As responsible as the boys feel for having released The Darkness and how much they personally want to defeat it, they’re not going to be able to do it alone,” the EP explained.

Ackles revealed just how in need of help the brothers are when he explained the danger of Season 11’s big bad during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. According to the actor, the pre-Biblical entity, which will take the shape of a woman during the upcoming installment, will be their biggest enemy yet.

“It’s more of a primal force that we know nothing about. There’s no lore; there’s no guidebook; there’s no instruction manual on how to deal with this,” he explained.

And because of that, the supernatural-fighting siblings will need to reach out to friends and foes from their past to try to take down the powerful entity.

“They’re going to have to confront some figures from their past. They’re going to have to make some unexpected and unholy alliances involving folks from their past, which will have personal ramifications as well. Because these are some pretty significant figures from their past," Carver concluded.
