‘Superstore’
Mateo (Nico Santos) will have multiple storylines in “Superstore” Season 3. NBC

“Superstore” Season 3 will introduce a new character named Scott.

According to TV Line’s entertainment writer Michael Ausiello, Scott is a handsome construction worker who will be helping the staff of Cloud 9 put the store back together after the massive storm in Season 2. Mateo (Nico Santos), who works at Cloud 9, will develop a close relationship with Scott, who will also be his love interest. However, Mateo is also in a relationship with Jeff (Michael Bunin), and it is unclear if Scott will eventually reciprocate Mateo’s feelings.

Another major storyline that will be explored in Season 3 has to do with Amy (America Ferrera) and Jonah (Ben Feldman). In the final moments of Season 2, the two characters kissed.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in May, executive producer Justin Spitzer revealed that he initially did not intend for Amy and Jonah to kiss. “I didn’t even originally intend for them to actually kiss at the end of this episode. For the longest time, they were just going to have a moment when they sort of looked into each other’s eyes as the store was being destroyed around them and kind of have an almost-kiss. I just wanted the moment when Amy then decides to go back to her family at the end to have some real resonance, and it felt like there needed to be something as significant as a kiss to make that feel important… It felt like we could do it now and not have it take away all the tension between them,” he said.

During a separate interview with Deadline, the EP said that he also wants “Superstore” Season 3 to feature more guest stars. Two names that he specifically mentioned are Patton Oswalt and Fred Armisen. “I mean, I love Patton Oswalt, I was talking to him the other day. Fred Armisen is someone else I’d love to have. So there’s great actors out there and we’d love to have them,” he said.

“Superstore” Season 3 will premiere on NBC on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. EST.
