Taye Diggs is opening up about his divorce from Broadway musical performer Idina Menzel, six months after they announced they were separating. The couple seemed solid, even singing a duet together during her PBS concert special in 2012. But they announced in December that they were splitting after 10 years of marriage and several years of dating before tying the knot and then having a child in 2009.

Diggs, 43, told Redbook about their split: "I'd be lying if I said there weren't times when I thought, Oh, man, people are going to trip out [if we split]. Maybe they thought it was cute that we met in 'Rent,'" he says. "There weren't a lot of couples like us in the theater community – and I know there aren't a lot of performers as talented as she is … and then you have the whole mixed [race] thing."

In December, a rep for the couple told People: “Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time. Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time." Their son, Walker, is 5 years old.

The actor went on to talk about their commitment to him. "It was easy for people to root for us," he says. "Right now, we're still trying to figure out a lot of stuff because we're on different coasts and our son is getting older."

Since splitting with Menzel, Diggs has found love again, with a woman named Amanza Smith. “They are fully dating. They’re telling friends they’re in love,” a source tells People.
