Video game publisher THQ Inc recorded a loss and its revenue fell in the third-quarter as consumers spent less on its video games during the holiday season.

The company, known for franchises like WWE SmackDown vs Raw and Saints Row posted a net loss of $14.9 million, or 22 cents per share, compared with a profit of $542 million, or 1 cent per share a year earlier.

THQ's revenue fell 11 percent to $314.6 million from $356.9 million a year earlier.

Shares closed down 7 percent at $6.41 on the Nasdaq on Wednesday.
