Top 10 Weirdest Celebrity Phobias: The Famous Faces and Their Fears [PHOTOS]

No... we aren't mocking any of them... we all have bizarre fears, even the legendary Marilyn Monroe was afraid of public and open spaces.

Here are some of the phobias that a few of Hollywood's better-known faces are victims of...

1. Scarlett Johansson

American actress Scarlett Johansson is terrified of birds. The next time you see her screaming and panicking… it could be because of a peacock or any bird flapping its wings... Johansson has Ornithophobia. She is also afraid of creepy cockroaches.

Something about wings and beaks and the flapping… I’m terrified of them. That still hasn’t gone away... I was terrified of the peacocks on set (of her new film We Bought a Zoo). Like, ‘Ahh, don’t get too close.’ They’re like, mean,” she said in an interview with New York magazine.

The 27-year-old actress also has Hypochondria, a phobia she shares with Woody Allen. They both have a habit of constantly checking each other for various medical ailments, Johansson told Vogue.

2. Megan Fox

Megan Fox, the star of the first two Transformers films, has multiple phobias... from Bacteriophobia, Achluophobia and Papyrophobia to many more. For example, she is terribly afraid of touching dry paper and scared of germs - the reason why she avoids using public toilets or restaurant cutlery.

Every time someone uses a bathroom and they flush, all the bacteria are shot into the air. Putting my mouth where a million other mouths have been, just knowing all the bacteria that you carry in your mouth? Ucch!, Fox told Allure's June 2010 issue.

There is more... Fox is scared of the dark too.

I've been afraid of the dark all my life... I leave the lights on all the time and if the light is off, I have to run across the room to get to the switch, she said in an earlier interview.

The actress also has a fear of looking at her own photographs; she was afraid of looking at her photographs and videos from Transformers, when it was released. A report states that she actually drank champagne to get the courage to watch her blockbuster movie.

“I don’t watch playback. I don’t look at still photos. I have a phobia for it,” she revealed, in another interview.

3. Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson, of the Twilight series of films, has Equinophobia... he is scared of horses. He admitted as much when shooting for the film Water for Elephants.

I had to get knocked down by a horse. That was terriyfing. It was just one split second but (it was) a fully grown stallion - I'm kind of relatively scared of horses as well, he was quoted as saying by Contactmusic.com. 

4. Britney Spears

American pop star Britney Spears suffers from Herpetophobia. She panics on seeing large reptiles and lizards; Komodo dragons, in particular, make her really uncomfortable.

5. Madona

Superstar musician and actress Madona is terrified of thunder... the reason why she'd never be caught stepping out when it is raining and thundering! She suffers from Brontophobia, one of the more common phobias in the world.

6. David Beckham

British soccer player David Beckham wants everything in order; he can’t stand anything messy around him. His particular phobia - Ataxophobia - is similar to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and relates to a fear of disorder or untidiness.

According to a report in The Telegraph, he goes crazy if things around him are not kept organized and according to “color, size and quantity.”

I have to have everything in a straight line or everything has to be in pairs. I'll put my Pepsi cans in the fridge and if there's one too many then I'll put it in another cupboard somewhere. I'll go into a hotel room and before I can relax I have to move all the leaflets and all the books and put them in a drawer,” he said in the report.

7. Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson is an Eisoptrophobic - someone who is frightened of mirrors. It does seem odd that although most people love to watch her without blinking, she can't stand to see her reflection. Either way, a fear of mirrors could be a tough obstacle for a celebrity to overcome.

“I have this phobia: I don't like mirrors. And I don't watch myself on television. If anything comes on, I make them shut it off, or I leave the room,” she was once quoted as saying in an interview.

8. Oprah Winfrey

Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey’s phobia is the most interesting… she has had a fear of chewing-gum since childhood. She is so anti-gum that she apparently banned chewing-gum from the building, in Chicago, Il. where she records her television program, Contactmusic.com reported.

My grandmother used to save it (chewing-gum) in little rows in the cabinet. I'd be scared to touch it because it was so gross, so I have a thing about gum,” she said.

One guest in my home sat at the dinner table, took out some gum from her mouth and put it on her plate - after she left, I threw the plate out, said Winfrey. 

Incidentally, if one were not aware, a fear of chewing-gum is called Chiclephobia.

9. Nicole Kidman

While most people would love to see beautiful butterflies… Nicole Kidman is really sacred of them. She panics and suffers from anxiety attacks on seeing them.

She has tried hard to overcome this bizarre fear.

There is something eerie about them. Something weird, she said of her condition, called Lepidopterophobia; a condition related to Mottephobia - fear of moths.

10. Christina Ricci

There are no indoor plants at Christina Ricci’s house. That is because she has a fear of plants... she thinks they are dirty and they freak (her) out. Ricci has Botanophobia, in addition to being scared of swimming pools and sharks.

11. Kelly Osbourne

Well... the list of the top ten weirdest phobias may be over but singer Kelly Osbourne's phobia deserves an honorary mention! Osbourne is a victim of Haphophobia... the fear of being touched.

“All you have to do is just touch her collarbone. It’s awesome, she starts dry-retching,” her brother Jack once said, playfully mocking her for the condition.
