Toyota Motor Corp. is considering bringing its model iQ microcar to the U.S. but did not say when.

The iQ car is a two-door car similar to Daimler AG's Smart fortwo two-seater which is attractive for urban areas because of its small size and fuel efficiency.

The iQ model went on sale in Japan first and Europe later in 2008.

The Toyota iQ microcar being sold in Japan and Europe is another example of a world platform that we may want to adapt to the U.S. market, Don Esmond, senior vice president of automotive operations at Toyota Motor Sales USA, said on Wednesday according to the Associated Press.

Toyota captured the No. 1 spot in auto industry sales after General Motors had held on to the title for 77 years.
