There was a lot of great television in 2014 and no also shortage of heartbreak and tragedy. Dozens of characters met their untimely demise over the course of the TV year; some expected, some unexpected, but all will be missed – yes, even the bad guys.

Here is a list of 28 TV characters who did not live to see 2015:

1) Allison Argent (Crystal Reed) – “Teen Wolf” – Scott’s (Tyler Posey) first love was killed by the Oni in Season 3.

2) Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) – “The Vampire Diaries” – Stefan (Paul Wesley) stabbed Katherine to get her out of Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) body and presumably dragged to hell in Season 5.

3) Antoine Triplett (B.J. Britt) – “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” – Trip was killed in an earthquake caused by Skye’s (Chloe Bennett) new powers in Season 2.

4) Pastor Tom (Mark Hildreth) – "Resurrection" -- Tom was hit by a car after the anti-Returned group attacked his church in Season 2.

5) Sam Keating (Tom Verica) – “How to Get Away With Murder” -- The philandering husband’s murder was the impetus for the debut season of the ABC drama.

6) Finn Collins (Thomas McDonell) – “The 100” – Finn was stabbed by Clarke (Eliza Taylor) to prevent a painful execution by the Grounders in Season 2.

7) Sandy Bachman (Corey Stoll) – “Homeland” – The series newcomer and CIA agent was killed by an angry mob after his cover was blown in Pakistan in the Season 4 premiere.

8) Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) – “The Walking Dead” – Beth was shot by Dawn (Christine Woods) after a prisoner exchange went wrong in the Season 5 midseason finale.

9) Yvonne “Vee” Parker (Lorraine Toussaint) – “Orange Is the New Black” – The dangerous inmate escaped Litchfield only to be hit by a stolen van driven by the also-escaping Rosa (Barbara Rosenblat) in Season 2.

10) Pierce Hawthorne (Chevy Chase) – “Community” – The Greendale Gang learned of Pierce’s death in Season 5.

11) Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) – “House of Cards” – Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) shocked fans when he pushed the young journalist in front of a train to silence her in Season 2.

12) Beverly Katz (Hettienne Park) – “Hannibal” – The crime scene investigator was murdered by Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) after she found evidence tying him to the Chesapeake Ripper murders in Season 2.

13) Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) – “Game of Thrones” – To the delight of viewers, the sinister king was poisoned during the infamous "Purple Wedding" episode in Season 4.

14) Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) – “Game of Thrones” – The Dornish prince met a gruesome end fighting for Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) in a trial by combat duel against Gregor Clegane (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) in Season 4.

15) Sandor “The Hound” Clegane (Rory McCann) – “Game of Thrones” – The brute with a soft spot for Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) was presumed dead after a fight with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) in Season 4.

16) Will Gardner (Josh Charles) – “The Good Wife” – Alicia’s (Julianne Margulies) partner – in more ways than one – was shockingly shot and killed in the courtroom in Season 5.

17) Bert Cooper (Robert Morse) – “Mad Men” – The eccentrically wise senior partner died moments after hearing about the Neil Armstrong moon landing in Season 7.

18) Rabbi Krustofski (Jackie Mason) – “The Simpsons” – The father of Krusty the Clown (Dan Castellaneta) met his end in the Season 26 premiere.

19) Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) – “Arrow” – The Black Canary was struck down in the Season 3 premiere by a brainwashed Thea (Willa Holland).

20) Daniel Grayson (Joshua Bowman) – “Revenge” – Daniel was shot in the chest by Katherine Black (Courtney Ford) in Season 4, episode 10.

21) Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam) – “Sons of Anarchy” -- The SAMCRO leader offed himself in the series finale by driving his motorcycle head on into a truck during a police chase.

22) King Horik (Donal Logue) – “Vikings” – The Viking king was killed when a plan to kill Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and his family backfired in Season 2.

23) Frederick Beauchamp (Christian Cooke) – “Witches of East End” – Frederick was stabbed to death by his grandfather trying to save Ingrid (Rachel Boston) in Season 2.

24) Bunky Collier (Danny Hoch) – “The Knick” – The gangster was killed by the mysterious opium dealer Wu (Perry Yung) at Barrow’s (Jeremy Bobb) request in Season 1.

25) Charlie Skinner (Sam Waterston) – “The Newsroom” – The veteran news director died of a heart attack on the newsroom floor in Season 3, episode 5.

26) Nucky Thompson (Steve Buschemi) – “Boardwalk Empire” – Nucky was shot in the series finale by Jimmy’s (Michael Pitt) son Tommy (Travis Tope) to avenge his father’s death.

TV characters whose fates in 2015 are unknown:

27) Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) – “Arrow” – The Green Arrow was last seen tumbling off a cliff after a battle with Ra’s al Ghul (Matt Nable) in Season 3.

28) Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) – “House of Cards” – Doug was attacked by Rachel Posner (Rachel Brosnahan) and left in the woods unconscious in Season 2.
