UPDATE: 2:25 p.m. EDT — It's back up. Nobody panic.

Maybe Twitter was trying to cope with recently being outpaced by Pokemon Go, the free app that lets you imitate Ash Ketchum IRL. Pokemon Go passed the social site in daily active users earlier this month, TechCrunch reported.

In any case, people's Thursday routines were seriously disrupted by the outage. What better to do when Twitter goes down than to tweet about Twitter when Twitter comes back? Here's a selection of memes that shows our collective dependence on the service:

Original story:

How are people going to read your #ThursdayThoughts? The social media service Twitter appeared to be down Thursday afternoon just after 2 p.m. EDT. Trying to access the desktop site showed an error message reading, "Something is technically wrong."

"Thanks for noticing — we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon," the site read.

Downrightnow.com, which tracks a variety of websites, showed that Twitter was experiencing a "likely service disruption." No other details were immediately available. Hang tight and... go on Facebook, I guess?
