Seeing John Cena take on The Undertaker at WrestleMania would be a dream scenario for many wrestling fans. But it isn’t just the viewers that are hoping for that match to happen on WWE’s biggest stage.

On Tuesday’s edition of "SmackDown Live," Cena told The Miz that he would be facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 if it was his decision to make.

“If I was really this black-arts manipulator pulling all the strings this close to WrestleMania, you think I would be standing in a ring toe-to-toe, face-to-face with you?” Cena asked The Miz. “Hell no! I’d be standing face-to-face with The Undertaker!”

Cena’s statement was part of a lengthy promo that he cut on The Miz, his likely WrestleMania 33 opponent. For weeks, there have been rumors that Cena and Nikki Bella will team up against The Miz and Maryse in a mixed tag match on April 2, and those reports seem to be bearing true.

Even though Cena was in character, there was probably a lot of truth in his words. The Undertaker’s match is always a marquee match on the WrestleMania card, and Cena has never gotten a chance to face the Deadman on the grandest stage of them all, even though he’s been the face of WWE for over a decade.

There were rumors that Cena would have a match against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 32, but that plan was scrapped when the 16-time world champion was forced to undergo shoulder surgery. It looked like he might get his chance in 2017, but based on the Royal Rumble, it looks like The Undertaker will take on Roman Reigns instead.

With The Undertaker set to turn 52 years old before WrestleMania 33 and headed towards the end of his career, Cena might never get his chance to face the man that’s gone 23-1 at WrestleMania.

A match between Cena and The Undertaker would probably headline any WrestleMania, no matter what the rest of the card might look like. At WrestleMania 33, Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar might be the match that closes the show.
