Paul Wesley recently shares his thoughts about Nina Dobrev's departure from the cast of "The Vampire Diaries," and said next season will be interesting given the change. The 32-year-old actor plays Stefan Salvatore on the CW show -- alongside Ian Somerhalder, who plays brother Damon Salvatore.

Dobrev played Elena Gilbert, but fans were shocked when she announced her departure from the show last month. Many viewers are now wondering what’s going to happen to the series.

"Obviously there's a great nostalgia. It’s never going to be the same," Wesley told People on Saturday night, during a gala in Los Angeles for The Humane Society of the United States. He added that he has no idea what the creators of "The Vampire Diaries" have planned for next season.

"It's going to be really interesting," he said. "It will be interesting to see what they come up with for the brothers."

Caroline Dries, an executive producer of "The Vampire Diaries," told E! News last week that Season 7 will go with a back-to-basics approach, with Stefan and Damon and their love story as brothers. Dries said the conflict for next season will come from the Salvatore brothers versus their mom and her family of heretics. Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly on Thursday that Dobrev's departure opens up new story possibilities for other characters.
