Vampire Diaries 804 spoilers
Peter Maxwell (Joel Gretsch) will be introduced in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, episode 4. CW

The familiar faces are going to keep coming on “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8. Last week, Damon attacked Tyler Lockwood, and another longtime cast member will make his comeback in episode 4. However, this Mystic Falls alum will be even less happy to see him than Tyler.

It sounds like Sybil (Nathalie Kelley) is sending Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to find something important. “Tasked with finding a mysterious artifact, Damon’s latest mission takes him to Texas where a violent run-in with Peter Maxwell (Joel Gretsch) leads to a surprising revelation,” the synopsis teases.

So who is Peter Maxwell? His casting description refers to him as “a blue-collar guy who abandoned his family a long time ago. He is shocked when his grown son walks back into his life to reconnect — and to drag Peter into a world of supernatural dangers.”

So who might that son be? Well, there is a character fans know and love who was abandoned by his father: Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig). It’s entirely possible that they’re connected, especially considering that he is making his return in episode 4. “Matt returns to the fray after his past and present collide in an unexpected way,” the summary teases.

Let’s hope Matt’s return isn’t for a funeral. Damon looked seriously close to killing Tyler in the last episode. With the final season of “TVD” underway, it doesn’t seem like anyone is truly safe.

Elsewhere, the gang is still looking for a way to save the boys. “Meanwhile, after gaining the upper hand in their fight to save Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey), Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Alaric (Matt Davis) team up and uncover the origins of the mysterious force they’re up against,” the synopsis reveals.

They have Sybil locked up in the Armory, but there is still another threat. The promo video above reveals, as we previously theorized, that she has a sister. The siren also notes that Damon believes in Hell, which might play into episode 4’s title.

This week’s installment of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 is called “An Eternity of Misery.” The title is derived from something Damon told Stefan in Season 1, episode 20. In a flashback, the brothers were shown becoming vampires, and Damon wasn’t so happy about it.

“You got what you wanted,” Damon said. “You and me for all eternity. But hear this, brother: I will make it an eternity of misery for you.” It certainly seems like a hint that the fight for Damon is only going to get more difficult for Stefan.

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8, episode 4 airs Friday at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
