Veterans Day in the U.S., also known as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, is a chance to honor military veterans and mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. The day was created to honor the signing of the armistice that officially ended that war on Nov. 11, 1918.

The day is also known as Poppy Day throughout the world for the flower commonly laid in memory of the fallen. Poppies are considered the flowers for consolation and for eternal sleep.
