Manchester City failed to advance to the knockout stages of the 2011-2012 Champions League, but still managed to end their run with a 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich at Etihad Stadium, on Wednesday.

Roberto Mancini's squad failed to secure a place, as Napoli defeated Villarreal to earn the second-place spot in Group A behind Bayern.

In the 36th minute, David Silva gave an electric left-footed strike from just outside the box that put City ahead.

The scored would stay that way into the second half when midfielder Yaya Toure scored in the 52nd minute off the assist from Edin Dzeko.

City took 18 shots, with eight on goal, while Bayern took 12 shots, with three on goal. City had possession for 54 percent of the match.

Though the Citizens failed to advance, they are still in first place in the Premier League with two major tests coming up. Mancini's squad face Chelsea on Dec. 12, and Arsenal on Dec. 18.
