One of the favorites to win the 2013 US Open is moving on to the next round. On Monday afternoon, Rafael Nadal defeated Ryan Harrison in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 to move on to the second round of the hard court tournament.

The No.2 seed didn’t have much trouble with the American in his first US Open match in two years. He missed last year’s tournament with a knee injury and is trying to bounce-back after a disappointing finish in his last major. Nadal was upset in the first round at Wimbledon.

Nadal was able to win by limiting his mistakes. He committed 21 unforced errors, compared to Harrison’s 34. He took advantage of his opponent's serving troubles, as Harrison finished with just a 62 percent first-serve percentage.

In the second round, Nadal will face the winner of Rogerio Dutra Silva versus Vasek Pospisil. Pospisil, the No.40 ranked tennis player in the world, is a heavy favorite.
