Nacer Chadli’s goal in the eighth minute and Thomas Carroll’s second-half strike allowed Tottenham a 2-0 victory over AC Milan on Wednesday in the Audi Cup consolation match at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

It’s the first taste of victory for Spurs during their short preseason, following letdowns to MLS All-Stars and Real Madrid in the mini-tournament’s opener. It also provides some relief for Mauricio Pochettino’s side before the start of the Premier League season, when they face Manchester United on Saturday.

For Milan, they’ll have to wait 18 more days before the start of Serie A after registering a solid victory over rival Inter, only to drop three straight.

Belgian midfielder Chadli would beat 18-year-old Milan defender Davide Calabria with one dribble left just outside the penalty area to set up a blast that curved past keeper Christian Abbiati for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Chadli’s first since Tottenham’s 2-2 result with Southampton in Premier League play back in April.

Spurs' attack would largely remain dormant until Carroll nixed any chance of a Milan comeback in the 71st minute.

The midfielder picked up his first goal of the preseason when new defender Kieran Trippier slipped the ball to the left wing with no Milan defenders in sight, allowing Carroll to clank his ground shot off the left post to seal the win.
