Volkswagen introduced a hybrid version of the Jetta this week at the 2012 North American Auto Show in Detroit, a vehicle the company said will be one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the market.

The new Jetta will be powered by a high-tech turbocharged gasoline engine and a zero-emissions electric motor, the company said. There is both power and efficiency: It will have a 0-to-60 time of less than nine seconds, but also an EPA-estimated 45 miles per gallon of fuel efficiency.

The sporty hybrid is about 20 percent more fuel efficient than its conventional, gas-powered companion. In city traffic, though, that percentage climbs to about 30 percent.
