U.S. stocks extended gains on Monday, with Nasdaq increasing 2 percent, after data showed sales of previously owned homes rose to the highest in more than 2-1/2 years, while a rally in commodities boosted resource shares.

* The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> jumped 162.64 points, or 1.58 percent, to 10,480.80. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> advanced 19.73 points, or 1.81 percent, to 1,111.11. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 42.18 points, or 1.97 percent, to 2,188.22.
