Wall Street edges up as energy's gains offset retail data
Stock indexes turned positive on Tuesday, lifted by the energy sector's advance, which offset retail sales data pointing to weak consumer demand.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 14.43 points, or 0.17 percent, to 8,346.11. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 2.83 points, or 0.31 percent, to 903.88. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> added 4.05 points, or 0.23 percent, to 1,797.26.
