Stocks ended lower for a third day on Wednesday as another set of weak economic figures heightened stock investors' anxiety over the extended rally.

Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 84.61 points, or 0.66 percent, to end unofficially at 12,722.90. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was down 9.38 points, or 0.69 percent, at 1,347.24. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was down 13.39 points, or 0.47 percent, at 2,828.23. It was a third day of losses for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
