Stocks fell further on Thursday as bleak reports on housing and the labor market dented hopes the economic slump was abating, and outlooks from bellwethers like UPS heightened worries about corporate profits.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 75.27 points, or 0.95 percent, to 7,811.30. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> lost 7.81 points, or 0.93 percent, to 835.74. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gave up 19.22 points, or 1.17 percent, at 1,626.90.
